I like a LOT of shit**:
outdoors - mountains (incl hill-walking, Munros, mountaineering/climbing, ski-touring & backpacking), cycling & (e!)MTBing, sailing
science & tech,
environment & energy (ecomodernism),
politics (~mod, social-liberalism),
culture & language(s) - incl. en, gd (Gàidhlig), sco (Scots), fr, de…,
nuance & irony.

I hate black-&-white simplism.
(PS While I like cats & dogs, I’m not into pics of them. Oh & I don’t like fancy dress.)

**so expect toots about all & any!

so… this is hard for me, but i’m starting to think it may be time to consider getting a permanent wheelchair. i have a loaner. it’s old, squeaky, judging by weight it’s apparently made of lead.

google seems lousy with enshittified ad pollution.

anyone out there have any good info/advice/love of a particular chair?

also any advice for coming to grips with this transition in my mobility would be greatly appreciated.

plz boost if you can.

Me, on the rank hypocrisy, the dumb, populist anti politics and pretendy investigative journalism that encircle political travel bills. https://www.heraldscotland.com/politics/23700106.can-cut-rank-hypocrisy-political-travel-bills/
Can we cut the rank hypocrisy on political travel bills?

@AeonMach So basically, DHS is already technologically capable of reaching anywhere in Scotland currently served by the gas network and many places serviced by the electricity network. The remaining villages could have their own micro-DHS. And remaining isolated buildings either a heat pump or bio-kerosene.

2/ PS although tbf I’m not sure Harvie IS what I call a Little House on the Praerie Green…
… I rather think that he and many (but not all by any means) well off professional urban Greens are Metro Greens = liberal metropolitan centre-ish (ie. social left/progressive + econ right-ish).

It’s just that they end up having the same anti-collectivist econ approach as the libertarian, self-sufficiency (anti-society/anti-modernity) Little House on the Praerie Greens. 🤷‍♂️

This is spot on from Robin McAlpine - of Common Weal - about the common somewhat libertarian tendencies of many (Little House on the Praerie©) Greens:

In contrast, Common Weal (policy & research head @thecommongreen) propose collectivist - state rather than individual - infrastructure policies & approaches such as *district heating*.👌

(And the whole renewable energy market is another libertarian “free market” clusterfuck…)

Basic Scottish Gaelic terms for genealogists

From Scotland, a daily news blog about genealogy, family history and personal heritage.

I still miss Twitter for #politics & #econ type stuff so dip in & there’s a good debate about #growth - lamenting our lack of it - started by a good blogpost by Sam Bowman (generally of a thoughtful free markets disposition):

But David Henig (here @DavidHenig) makes an excellent point**:
