I like a LOT of shit**:
outdoors - mountains (incl hill-walking, Munros, mountaineering/climbing, ski-touring & backpacking), cycling & (e!)MTBing, sailing
science & tech,
environment & energy (ecomodernism),
politics (~mod, social-liberalism),
culture & language(s) - incl. en, gd (Gàidhlig), sco (Scots), fr, de…,
nuance & irony.

I hate black-&-white simplism.
(PS While I like cats & dogs, I’m not into pics of them. Oh & I don’t like fancy dress.)

**so expect toots about all & any!

so… this is hard for me, but i’m starting to think it may be time to consider getting a permanent wheelchair. i have a loaner. it’s old, squeaky, judging by weight it’s apparently made of lead.

google seems lousy with enshittified ad pollution.

anyone out there have any good info/advice/love of a particular chair?

also any advice for coming to grips with this transition in my mobility would be greatly appreciated.

plz boost if you can.

Me, on the rank hypocrisy, the dumb, populist anti politics and pretendy investigative journalism that encircle political travel bills. https://www.heraldscotland.com/politics/23700106.can-cut-rank-hypocrisy-political-travel-bills/
Can we cut the rank hypocrisy on political travel bills?

I bet he says the same thing to all his new guests. The cheery manager of one of the last dirt cheap hotels in Manhattan had just led me up the…

@tortipede ‘S do bheatha!

@AeonMach So basically, DHS is already technologically capable of reaching anywhere in Scotland currently served by the gas network and many places serviced by the electricity network. The remaining villages could have their own micro-DHS. And remaining isolated buildings either a heat pump or bio-kerosene.

Carbon-free, Poverty-free

Common Weal’s Energy Working Group has published their latest paper on improving Scotland’s energy strategy. Carbon-Free, Poverty-Free looks at the challenge of reducing carbon emissions in Scotlan…

@thecommongreen Interesting; perhaps I’m underestimating the applicability of DHS! Happy to hear it can be more widely applied!

And on heat transmission: yes, that’s one reason why I think nuclear CHP is such a useful tool: “re-tool” Hunterston & Torness - possibly with multiple modern SMRs - as CHP sites for Central Belt. Add more for Aberdeen/Dundee, Inverness etc.

And build out RE, large scale heat pumps too. Obviously ;-)

@thecommongreen PS I say “easy”; I mean *conceptually* a fairly simple strategic triage…
1/ obvious district heating (DHS)
2/ obviously NOT suitable for district heating -> heat pumps
3/ grey areas… more work needed
Stuff nobody had on their 21st century Bingo card: Germany being seen as a place of safety for Israeli refugees fleeing a fascist government
@thecommongreen Yes I think there’s a reasonably easy approach that says that dense urban areas should be solved with DHS (with that possibly being based on huge scale heat pumps! And/or nuclear combined heat & power! Cos we are going to need a lot more - reliable - power!)…
…and with individual (per home) heat pumps being used for more dispersed rural areas and/or smaller towns?
