Postdoc at CSUF working on Cosmic Explorer 🌌

Formerly University of Glasgow PhD working on multi-messenger astronomy, gravitational wave cosmology and LIGO detector calibration.

I also do art! I enjoy painting, making cute space-themed stickers and knitting.

I sometimes post nice to nice-ish photos and blurry photos of my cat.

With the news being out that GEO600 will cease operations at the end of the year, if anyone who is/was involved with it wants a high res copy of my travel poster to print don't hesitate to get in touch!
(I also have a version with the infamous tractor!)

I went looking for that dramatic winter sunrise light I saw a year ago near the Cobbler, and I found it. A December morning in the Alps of Arrochar - hard to choose only four photos!

I still need to sort through my photos and edit them properly but the night sky in Joshua Tree National Park was something else.

Why are there two LIGO observatories?

LIGO has two detectors ~3000 km apart for three main reasons:
Noise discrimination – separating local vibrations from real signals by comparing distant data.
Signal timing – gravitational waves travel at light speed; timing differences over 10 ms rule out false signals.
Source localization – two sites help narrow wave origins; adding more (like Virgo) improves precision, as in the 2017 neutron star event.

Yosemite Serenity 🌲 My watercolor painting is inspired by a summer visit. What a wonderful place! Fine art prints are available in a variety of sizes. Here's a large framed print for decor inspiration.

Je chope pas souvent de coups de soleil mais là j'en ai un qui pèle tellement que ça me donne limite faim on dirait la peau sur du sauciflard
(oui c'est dégueulasse)
I drove an automatic for the first time (also drove on the right for the first time!) the other day and I gotta say... I did NOT like it. So little control compared to a manual car!

Weird Glasgow Continued: A Ministry of Silly Walks sign I came across today by the children's play area in Kelvingrove Park.

For those with an artistic streak, #GR24Amaldi16 will be hosting an art science exhibition.

We welcome submissions inspired by the themes of the meeting (#Cosmology, #BlackHoles, #Gravity, #GravitationalWaves, #Astrophysics)/ Anyone can submit!
