I tell everyone who is new to #infosec that stress is a killer, and it (mostly) comes from frustration. People new to security think that the pace of change and the number of new vulnerabilities causes stress, but that's the cool bit - and the reason why many of us enjoy this job. In my experience, stress comes from seeing a problem and being unable to fix it. You will not survive in security long-term without being able to manage the frustration that comes from not being able to fix everything immediately.

Slack trying to hide their security disclosure? LastPass pulled the same thing recently, but even more blatantly.

We need a searchable index of companies who hide their disclosures like this. It would be extremely valuable when doing vendor assessments.

Computers used to scream out in pain when we connected them to the Internet.

This was a clue and we just didn't listen.

@opsnlops Indeed πŸ€” In fact the screams were also getting shriller and faster back then. At some point we started to ignore the screams with a simple "ATL0" 😱 #retro
A group of Chinese researchers claims it can break 2048-bit RSA using a quantum-ish computer and it's worth reading Schneier's comments https://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2023/01/breaking-rsa-with-a-quantum-computer.html

This is a very interesting read. If something goes wrong in #itsecurity then it can often be tracked down to uninformed or bad decisions. However I've never heard about such issues on such a massive scale. #infosec #privacy #malware

South Korea’s online security dead end

Websites in South Korea often require installation of β€œsecurity applications.” Not only do these mandatory applications not help security, way too often they introduce issues.

Asking again for suggestions for better mobile apps than the default Mastodon app itself. I've heard of Toot but curious if there's a free option that provides a solid experience. Boost for reach, please and thank you.
