Roman/Italic archaeologist teaching ancient Mediterranean culture, Latin, and Greek courses. Interested in domestic space - function and identity construction, really old trees, classical reception, archaeogaming, and much more… Pronouns: she, her, hers. 🏳️‍🌈. All opinions are my own.

Just to put the word out for folks: the new Mastodon 4.1 update allows you to add alt text to images you've already posted. It has been frustrating up until now to be unable to fix mistakes.

So if you made an image post and forgot to add the alt text, you can now go back and fix that, which is, as we all know, the right and upstanding thing to do. Spread the word. #AltText

EDIT: For this to work, your instance has to have upgraded to v4.1.0 Check the lower left corner of your screen to see.

#Season: a letter to the future (2023, Scavengers Studio) contains an abandoned archaeological excavation you can explore and document. The entire game is a rumination on material memory, intangible heritage, and the difficult choices surrounding what (and how much) to preserve of a culture about to be, quite literally, washed away.

It’s time to rethink the financial toll of college sports.

"Across the country, Division I sports represent a multibillion dollar industry like none other. It’s an industry where fewer than 10% of the businesses, the schools’ athletic programs, make money. Most of the programs are actually propped up by massive student subsidies, contrary to what many Americans seem to understand. Every public university sports program in Virginia runs a deficit — every year." #HigherEd

Column: It’s time to rethink the financial toll of college sports

Across the commonwealth, there has been much discussion about the student loan debt crisis and college affordability challenges. Virginians know that long-term solutions must be found for public higher education.
