"Wangari Maathai...introduced the idea of planting trees with the people in 1976 and continued to develop it into a broad-based, grassroots organization whose main focus is the planting of trees with women groups in order to conserve the environment and improve their quality of life. However, through the Green Belt Movement she has assisted women in planting more than 20 million trees on their farms and on schools and church compounds."

This morning we met up with 6 (SIX!) other #KidsOnBikes during our ride to school. Six smiling, happy, slightly flushed faces, all bright eyed and ready to start their day.

The activity, socialization, & independence these kids are getting is no small thing. The change in my kid's resilience & attitude since she's been riding her own bike to school has been remarkable.

When we deny kids #SafeRoutesToSchool, we deny them a huge part of their life.

This is an interesting discussion between an LA Times reporter and the head of the California Coastal Commission on how property rights interact with sea level rise when you consider everything below the high tide line to be public.

How does sea level rise challenge modern notions of property lines?

After we left CO, I didn’t expect to get as heavily into hockey again, but the Kraken are drawing me in. I can’t decide if it’s good or bad… hockey is stressful.

Gah! So frustrating… there’s so much that could be done.

SCOOP: Stanford’s sustainability school recently announced its first big research focus: greenhouse gas removal.

The decision was shaped in part by meetings w/employees from fossil fuel companies like Shell, ExxonMobil, and Total, per emails I obtained 🧵 https://www.chronicle.com/article/big-oil-helped-shape-stanfords-latest-climate-research-focus

Big Oil Helped Shape Stanford’s Latest Climate-Research Focus

The university’s sustainability school chose greenhouse-gas removal after input from fossil-fuel executives. Critics say the industry’s involvement is cause for concern.

If you want cars to respect bikes, try to respect cars (at least a little). I always stop at 4-way stops if cars are there. I had another bike fly through a stop sign with cars waiting at all roads.
1. They're going to get killed.
2. This is why we're seen as reckless. Gah!

2030 is now 80 months away.

Each remaining month is 1.25% of the time we have left to reduce global emissions to 45% below to 2010 levels -which the IPCC say is necessary to stay below 1.5C

Currently, we're ~20% above 2010 levels & still headed in the wrong direction 😬

The 2020s are likely to see the fastest rate of global warming that we'll ever see.

And the @IMOHQ decision to clean up shipping fuels is going to play a key part in that.

Here are the reasons we should buckle up for a shocking rate of warming... https://twitter.com/Revkin/status/1651568456494469121

Yesterday was the first day CO₂ at Mauna Loa was 425 ppm. This is:
-likely the first time in the past 800,000 years.
-possibly not seen in over 3 million years (mid-pliocene warm period).
-A CO₂ forcing equal to 2.5-4°C of warming and 5-25 meters higher global sea level.
