I've devised the "Colonization Rule of 3": once we've colonized another planet (and we must to survive as a species, our sun will expand and burn this planet no matter how pristine we keep it), we must expand our colonies as quickly as possible and maintain a sustained minimum of 3 cities, on 3 planets per system, 3 different systems, in 3 quadrants of a galaxy, eventually 3 galaxies -- to minimize cataclysm effects & sustain humanity as an ongoing species
