@codinghorror heh I discovered Georgism from Usenet 25 years ago now.
Henry George got his idea while living in SF and seeing the previously open land of the east bay shoot up in value . . . that was his 'ah hah' moment, and once you see it, you can't unsee it it.
Mason Gaffney's https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Corruption_of_Economics is good, but the core document I go to is this:
https://www.prosper.org.au/2007/11/letter-to-gorbachev/
Norway avoided "Dutch Disease" brilliantly, Russia, not so much...
@privacyint first setup of Marshall Brain's "Manna":
@kottke Try to book a sunset time for Shibuya Sky . . . it's worth it if the weather cooperates (Shinjuku's free observation floor is pretty good too . . )
I found walking around the old main castle moat to be very impressive, when you consider why it was built and how serious it was 400 years ago now.
Sitting in the front seat of the Yurikamome driverless train from Shinbashi to Odaiba is also a cheap thrill.
Shakujii-koen is a gem of a lakeside park
