4F/-16C is pretty cold for biking D: my goggles frosted over pretty much instantly, and also my snot. a lot of cars were really impatient with me during my commute!!! sorry, cars, i can't safely go any faster than this, please be kind ;_;

@modgethanc I've done as low as -20°C, but not for a very long ride.
@ivanvector @modgethanc I've done as low as -20, for a long ride, do not recommend. Frequent breaks necessary

@nev @modgethanc Warming breaks you mean? Or rest breaks?

My main problem with the ride was that I layered too heavily and started sweating, which is very not ideal in -20 weather and probably would have been unrecoverable on a long ride.

@ivanvector @nev yeah, i've been working on learning some heat/sweat venting techniques for long cold hikes, but biking is hard because it's so exothermic. usually my toes start going numb first, though, since they're so exposed to road spray and wind.

my goggles fog in like five minutes, then they freeze; it's just from my breath sneaking up my scarf/hood and pooling over my face, i think. but i also have to keep my mouth/nose covered in this temperature. tricky!!!

@modgethanc @ivanvector I've found a merino wool neck tube thing is thin enough that I can breathe through it without fogging up my glasses. But I also have a thicker fleece neck tube thing that can be pulled up if necessary
@nev @modgethanc I don't have good luck with face coverings, they tend to freeze to my beard. The half-mask-thing was better for that.
@ivanvector @nev man tbh i'm jealous of people who can sprout big fluffy beards in the winter, it looks so cozy :p

@modgethanc @nev what i lack on top i make up for on the chin

it's more like a brillo pad than a big comfy blanket tho, tbh
