Given that I see a lot of #artists here, I hope to see this UI eventually move toward displaying that art in a big, bold way. (Was one of the few nice things about Ello, and is nice about Twitter now and Tumblr.) The Internet is made of both text and images, so to see both displayed BIG BIG BIG AND LARGE would be nice.
@chuckwendig While I appreciate the Tweetdeck-inspired UI on Mastodon, I'd like a more single-column-with-tabs UI as an option. Then media would get a larger stage to play on.
@sivy @chuckwendig I'll throw my support behind this idea. It could be a way to help mastodon distinguish itself as more than a Twitter clone.
@jeremiahtolbert @chuckwendig Ironically (usage?) I was promoting a slightly more birdsite-style UI >< since it gives more width to the posts, but honestly, it would be nice if @Mastodon had a few options to choose from. Or, the user prefs did. Or both.
@jeremiahtolbert @sivy @chuckwendig Maybe the answer is customization. There is a single column style you can use, though I haven't tried it. I've installed a style that has a light background. And my Tootdon app is displaying images nice and large.
@janellecshane @sivy @chuckwendig I guess if the idea is to make an environment that features visual art better, with customization, you won't know if the audience is customized to see it better? But in general I like customization!
@jeremiahtolbert @sivy @chuckwendig it would be even better if the nicest customizations were default, I agree. At least this is a way to test and identify the most popular ones.

@janellecshane @jeremiahtolbert @chuckwendig So yeah, it's tricky. I'm sure @Gargron prefers the Tweetdeck-style layout, but I'd prefer a single timeline with tabs (or a 2/3 home timeline with 1/3 notifications) layout.

But I would not expect to force all other users to use my layout.

@sivy @chuckwendig @jeremiahtolbert @janellecshane yo you can use halcyon.social it's an alternative webapp
@Gargron @chuckwendig @jeremiahtolbert @janellecshane MIND. BLOWN.
@sivy @Gargron @chuckwendig MIght actually be TOO much like birdsite, but just that it can be done is AWESOME.
@chuckwendig Glad to see you, sir. Hopefully you can post all the cool and helpful writing/mental health stuff you do without being trolled.
@chuckwendig Was an early adopter of Ello, especially when they were Vermont based. Gave up pretty quickly though.
@chuckwendig Agreed. It would be better to enbiggen artwork.
@chuckwendig honestly I’ll be happy if they let us post more than 4 images at once.
@chuckwendig Agreed. Right now it's too cluttered. A more streamline interface would work better, and be able to feature content and art more prominently.

A webclient for Mastodon and Pleroma which looks like Twitter

@chuckwendig I would like wider tabs. Right now "toots" take up more than one scroll half the time. It's so hard to read.
@chuckwendig I've been bouncing from Twitter for community to Instagram for art. I'd love to see a platform that nailed both.
