Thinking about it, I like that the Mastodon equivalent for retweets is called "boosts" instead. Unlike "retweet" or "reblog", which centres your action in placing other people's stuff on your timeline, the action is more about increasing the range of the original toot (or jinx or awoo or w/e). The focus, I think, is more on them.

Besides, there are different words for "toot" on different instances, not to mention "retoot" being awkward as hell to say.

@Nezchan I like how ActivityPub uses "share" for similar reasons

@superbranch Yeah, I like that too for similar reasons.

It helps that I'm already used to the term "signal boosting" which this is similar to.

@Nezchan that was legitimately part of the reasoning behind choosing "boost", I think "like in signal boosting" was literally dropped along the suggestion
@theoutrider It's good thinking and I applaud it.
@Nezchan I really like that I remember this happening, all thanks to @actualham. That still remains the ethos of mastodon for me, that ordinary users can make a difference.

@katebowles @actualham As I said to someone else, the Mastodon I like the best is the Mastodon that does its own thing rather than "Twitter with tweaks".

When Mastodon has a different concept or design statement, I appreciate that.

@Nezchan
Haha!
"increasing the range of the original toot" outside the context of mastodon...
Fart jokes will never get old
