Private toots make me panic that somehow just by the mere act of responding to them I'm going to do something wrong and suddenly the whole thread will be public and it'll be all my fault.

@WelshPixie

Psst... Wanna cyber? It's totally private. No one can se...

Oh. Shit.

@WelshPixie well, if all instances come crashing down around our ears, we'll know who to blame. It was Del's fault. She did it.
@jlward noooooooooooooooooooooooo 😖

@WelshPixie i am in huge agreement here, for it to be usable and "safe" to use it *needs* to live in it's own context like DMs are on birdsite. The mixed context increases the chance of failure and I would not trust myself to rely on having preconfigured everything correctly...

I get why it's what it is right now and I wouldn't know what should/should not be a product priority but... yeah.

@tobypinder I'd definitely feel more comfortable with it if it were in another column or something and not appearing in my main notifications window - something separate that I need to access. Half the time I don't even notice that a message I'm replying to is a DM until I get to the bottom and see the envelope.

@WelshPixie yeah it's not really "designed" at all - it's clearly just been added on the basis that it's another federation/post propagation mode.

I don't know that it's wrong that it is this way right now, but I do know it would be a shame if "in stream" is how people want it to always be. Usability and context matters, and it's kind of a ticking timebomb if people are using it for anything truly sensitive :/

@WelshPixie yes it is....everything is your fault...Korea, Trump, exploding Samsung goods...all your fault
@AndyC Well fartnuggets. *gets the broom*
@WelshPixie you better clean that mess up!....incidentally 'fartnuggets' epic description
@AndyC I stole it from @warpgate9.
@warpgate9 @WelshPixie shhhh don't tell anyone! and certainly don't copy @warpgate9 in
