2017: people are making fun of the squeeze-bag-juice company
2117: all food is exclusively available from DRM-protected bags, hand-squeezing is prohibited by law
@noiob i started giggling then i realised with cold creeping horror this may one day happen D:
@Nine I'm gonna hide a hand-juicer in my basement to commit rebellious acts
@noiob @Nine You will be lucky to be allowed hands at all.
@noiob
2157: the trees are gone, so food packs are cut into narrow strips, joined, then braided to fashion ropes that people use to trap small game
@noiob And they contain an unhealthy dose of Prozium ;)
@noiob As much as people are joking about Juicero, it seems like a great product idea for disabled people; most things that are mild successes in the "as seen on TV" market are things designed for disabled people, rebranded to be mass market / profitable. Juicero would never have gotten VC making a product for arthritis, or poor vision, or shaky hands, who don't live in cities where you can get fresh cold press delivery.
@noiob At the end of the day the sad joke is the state of capitalism where an inventor has the pressure to raise VC and make a huge splash when they could've been a mild success selling a cheaper version on late night TV or making deals with nursing homes.
@noiob Take for example the "snuggie" which gets made fun of as being something for lazy people who just sit around watching TV – it was designed for people in wheelchairs.
@noiob Good news: By then, Antarctica would be considered "mild" and just right for growing potatoes and oranges
@cypnk this toot is four days old
@noiob Sorry, it was just boosted into my TL
@cypnk It's just tiring to see that toot over and over in my notifications. Sorry for that answer, it was inconsiderate, it's not like I read the date on everything I interact with
@noiob Do you really have to wait until 2117? I believe the DMCA in the US prohibits circumventing DRM already. I don't believe it's anywhere required that said DRM actually be effective.
