It would be nice to have a button to express "Sorry you're suffering; hugs, sympathy." Favoriting a sad status seems a little sadistic. An emoji looks oblivious, and written messages might appear like you're The Vampire Angel of Sympathy, stalking the miserable. It seems so cold just to let a "feeling lousy today" status stand alone.
@Berthavlix Yeeesss. "Support hug" button would be most, most welcome.
@Berthavlix make it a hug button and then wait for all the rightists to complain that masto is a hugbox. "I know, that's what we like"

@Berthavlix I kind of liked how Slack handles this: you can use any emoji as a reaction, and then other users can second your reaction.

Posts don't always fall into the cut-and-dried "angry/sad/funny/etc" categories that Facebook used.

@Berthavlix A rare good move by Facebook was adding alternative reactions.
@Berthavlix Favourites mean only what we decide they mean...
@mattskala That would be nice. If people understand that the star can be support, not just "yeah!" then that would be enough.
