@Dan_Blick @actualham @Autumm I have the same reaction. I can skim Twitter quickly and catch up. Here I read back carefully, even it's harder work technically to find my way.
But I notice that navigational clunk makes me concentrate. Twitter's algorithmic summarising has made me lazy I think.
@Dan_Blick @katebowles @actualham @Autumm I'm finding the somewhat clunky UX to be a feature, not a bug, for exactly that reason. I scroll through notifications first, then the home column. Click on an intriguing toot and the whole conversation comes up.
I like being forced to concentrate and spend time. I also makes my responses more considered and less off-the-cuff. (hopefully)
But I might soon reach my limit in terms of the number I can follow...
@Dan_Blick @katebowles @actualham @Autumm Home is still a manageable volume for me. But then I'm not following 100+ yet :)
I never use lists on Twitter, but can see how they could bee very useful here. But I worry about missing toots from those who are less active. I know from my own experience that when you are less active, others interacting with you when you do make a post makes a big difference.
@fgraver @actualham @Dan_Blick @Autumm For all sorts of reasons my human limit for following on Twitter has been 600. Above this I feel the air get thin around me.
But looking at that number now it seems way too high. I'm not following 600, I'm just open to keeping an eye on 600. Here I think the number is smaller because I'm really following, really thinking about people.
@katebowles @actualham @Dan_Blick @Autumm And, has has happened the past couple of days - Mastadon is picking up just as I'm gettign ready to shut down... :)
Looking forward to catching up in the morning.
@fgraver @Dan_Blick @katebowles @actualham This is really my first blast of notifications other than "welcome to mastodon" or "hey are you on mastodon" Gosh I'm always late/slow - I digress but blog post forthcoming on that.
Without lists I am thinking much more about who I follow.
