I'm learning Japanese (slowly) and I'm having a major problem with 上げる vs 上がる and it's driving me up the wall >.<
@nullkal I'm glad I'm not alone! I'm having problems with telling them apart and pronouncing them correctly and it is driving me mad!
Just like 大きい and 大きさ, but those two aren't quite as frustrating.
@_nabbe The second example (「私は荷物を2階に上げる」 and not 「私は荷物を2階に上がる」) makes sense to me.
However, the first doesn't. My Japanese is still limited but that seems to be saying "I go upstairs" and "I go up to the second floor". Would it be possible to explain a little more as to why the second isn't acceptable?
