I recently up my Laptop as a dual-boot for Windows 10 / Linux Mint.

For some reason, despite WiFi connecting to my router OK, no web sites will resolve in the browser. No response from the Mint forum at all.

@timrowe do me a favor. Open a terminal and run 'nslookup google.com' and respond with the output?
@Rtzq0 Have tried ping but no response. Currently able to connect to WiFi via tethering Android phone.
@timrowe That looks suspiciously unlike the output of nslookup google.com ;-)
@Rtzq0 no response to that command.
@timrowe just tested this on a mint VM. Even if you have no network connection that command produces an output. Please keep in mind that I'm trying to help a random stranger on the internet for free, please either supply screenshots or copy-pasted terminal output. Otherwise I'm not going to be able to justify spending time trying to help.
@timrowe Have you done a reboot? Wifi often loves that.
@Algot Will try now. Thanks.
@timrowe Wifi sometimes likes it to be a cold boot, grabbing the signal very early.
@Algot Sadly, the cold boot failed. Thanks for the suggestion though.
@timrowe dual boot? jump, man. No fear.
@elbing Can't fully as I use other OS for music production.

@timrowe I had the same thing happen to me. I couldn't figure out what was going on with it, so I've just been using the Windows install.

Out of curiosity, what version of Mint and what laptop model are you using?

@Pummelator Kind of glad it's not just me. It's the most recent version of Mint and I'm on a Lenovo ideapad 110.

@timrowe Mine is Mint 17.2 Xfce on an Asus F555L.

It seems like it isn't an issue isolated to one brand or to one version of Mint. I'm thinking about replacing my 17.2 install with a 17.0 install (I have 17.0 installed on another computer and I like it just a little bit better than 17.2. It is also Xfce).

If I wind up doing that, I'll let you know if it solves anything.

@Pummelator Thanks. i suspect my problem has to do with the specific model i am using, more than the Linux distro.
@timrowe That's my Linux desktop experience in a nutshell. Looks ok, spend forever trying and failing to fix a dozen niggling problems.
@sidawson It's still in its infancy for music production, for which I relied initially on OSX then Windows.
@timrowe <nod> I can imagine. Frankly, I gave up trying to get linux working at all. Just too many headaches. I'd rather work than fix operating systems.
@sidawson I used to be a wannabe geek just after I got onto the Internet around 1996, but I didn't have the right constitution. :)
@timrowe Ha ha. I have the constitution, but to quote Lethal Weapon "I'm too old for this shit" :)
