Been reading several posts wondering and discussing on the possible success or failure of #Mastodon.

Being a huge #Twitter fan, I have to say that in my opinion, Mastodon has an interesting potential. Not only does it give an option to other social networks, but at least for now it's #adsfree, meaning that the #userexperience may resemble #socialmedia 10 years ago.

What do you think about this?

@monixette I think "success" or "failure" for a project like Mastodon has to be measured by completely different metrics than something like Twitter, given how they have different goals in mind.

Twitter fails if they can't make money, attract shareholders, maybe sell the damn thing. Mastodon fails if less than two users are left.

@Nezchan Totally! Of course, success criteria is core.

In my opinion, at this point Twitter is kinda desperate to keep its head up, even sacrificing #userexperience, and Mastodon has opportunities to improve and become "viral", so to speak.

:)

@monixette Agreed. My belief is if anything kills Twitter, it'll be self-inflicted wounds.

I personally don't want Mastodon to resemble Twitter in anything but the mechanics, and not even all those. And so far that's true, with tools like Content Warnings, Unlisted mode for posts, and hiding images. It's a different set of priorities, focusing on user comfort rather than gimmicks and shiny toys.

@Nezchan From time to time, users find more value in what works for them other that what looks super cool and novel.

I like how you think! Thx! :D
