Attention iOS/Android users: Mastodon supports functioning as a web app if you add it to your home screen from your browser! It should open in its own instance (heh) separate from your browser. Useful for additional convenience :) https://mastodon.social/media/13350
I had assumed this wasn't a thing yet, but turns out this was added almost a month ago: https://github.com/Gargron/mastodon/pull/130
@Skirmisher home screen Mastodon works pretty well i recommend it. still has some issues with viewing profiles though
@Triplefox I'd actually been using it in an orphan Chrome tab that spawned from opening a link in Gmail. Unfortunately, the options it provides you are rather limited, and you couldn't directly open a link in Chrome from it, so the app form is an improvement in that regard!
@Skirmisher this does not seem to work on iOS as far as i can tell; uses different login cookies but opens the login window in safari, so you can never log in, it seems.

@admung Yikes. File an issue: https://github.com/Gargron/mastodon/issues

If you add the login page to the home screen first/in addition and log in from there, does it work? First workaround that popped into my head.

@Skirmisher this does appear to work. you can only add the login page *while logged in through safari* by going in private though. also, if the webapp ever goes into the background, it goes blank and back to the main view. (doesn't log you out though)
@admung Ah, okay. Glad I could help :)
@Skirmisher i've added an issue to the tracker. unfortunately, my cursory search indicates that clearing on task-switch is standard iOS web-app behavior.
