Eugen RochkoI really, really appreciate seeing so many follows from mastodon.xyz (a different, new instance). When telling your friends about Mastodon, don't always point them to mastodon.social - point them to mastodon.xyz, icosahedron.website, social.tchncs.de, gay.crime.team etc etc

Hisham@Gargron It would be great if the mastodon.social signup screen did that.
Even better if we had a website to the general Mastodon project which we could point people to, that offered signup for various instances.

People would treat different instances just like email addresses.
toby@Gargron we need a landing page (doesn't have to be hosted here) and they need different icons so people can just click a cute looking thing and get on w/it (no prerequisite explaining users about federation first)

@Gargron I'm not following why that is the case. From the perspective of cultural, social, etc issues, federation is clearly beneficial, but if mastodon.xyz is essentially a clone of Mastodon.social, then why is putting eggs in two baskets important?
I'm just not sure how we can convince people to not use this instance if the only argument is "because"
