@Gargron It would be great if the mastodon.social signup screen did that.
Even better if we had a website to the general Mastodon project which we could point people to, that offered signup for various instances.

I'll see if I can get something up on mastadon.social for starters, or maybe someone can help me turn mastadon.social into another instance!
@b_cavello @Gargron I was thinking more like old email providers which offered you lots of domains to pick in a combo box:
Sign up: [_______]@[_______][v]
People would treat different instances just like email addresses.
@Gargron I'm not following why that is the case. From the perspective of cultural, social, etc issues, federation is clearly beneficial, but if mastodon.xyz is essentially a clone of Mastodon.social, then why is putting eggs in two baskets important?
I'm just not sure how we can convince people to not use this instance if the only argument is "because"
