IN 2008 THE INTERNET CONSISTED OF RUNESCAPE AND WIKIPEDIA THERE WAS NO TWITTER IN 2008
WHY DO PEOPLE KEEP SAYING MASTODON IS LIKE 2008 TWITTER WHEN CLEARLY MASTODON EXISTS,
UNLIKE TWITTER
IN 2008
oh my god you guys i looked up an image of Twitter in 2008 https://mastodon.social/media/12R9aIZl27KQCtXw36s how… how is this even remotely the same thing
…I'm going to go back to pretending that Twitter didn't exist now
@marrus_sh That's when it was fun :(
@marrussh I miss late-2000s Twitter.
@archaeme @marrussh capitalism eventually ruins everything.
@marrus_sh They've created a time paradox.
@marrus_sh idk the wikipedia page says founded in 2006 though https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twitter
@Warkgnall this is incorrect. i have perfect memory and i distinctly remember in 2008 thinking about twitter and how it didn't exist yet
@marrus_sh In 1998 the Internet consisted of GeoCities sites, Angelfire sites, bored college students nuking Marshmallow Peeps in the microwave and Newgrounds

@marrus_sh The GeoCities and Angelfire sites were DBZ and Sailor Moon webring members with visitor counters at the bottom of the page reading something like "2000 visitors! Wow!"

They would also have a splash page before the website proper asking if you wanted Frames or No Frames

@ryusei i know of this but only from browsing http://oneterabyteofkilobyteage.tumblr.com/ lol

@marrus_sh I'd say it was a simpler time, but looking at the webpage design aesthetic of the time that's patently false
