@vilbi sorry. I don't understand that much German. ☺️
@maloki @vilbi this is a bit of a rushed translation as I have to go to the shops soon before they close, but I think Wolfgang is suggesting using the German co-operatives model as another way of financing Mastodon instances, rather than depending on being funded by Patreon and sporadic donations and often just one person having to take on all the responsibility of running an instance (which is a lot of work!)
@maloki @vfrmedia thanks Alex, you got the intention translated correct!
@vfrmedia @maloki @vilbi *jumps up and down and waves a lot from social.coop*
@nev @vfrmedia @maloki @vilbi Social.coop is mentioned in the article, even if not explicitly (it says: In the US, there is a project for running a Mastodon instance as a coop).
@stefanieschulte @vfrmedia @maloki @vilbi I wasn't sure if it was a different one, bc s.c is hosted/run from Europe
@nev @vfrmedia @maloki @vilbi Are you starting an SCE? Wasn't aware of this. I talked to @mattcropp about this a while ago, but maybe you made some decisions in the meantime?

@mattcropp @vilbi @maloki @vfrmedia @nev Some background info about SCEs:

https://www.theguardian.com/social-enterprise-network/2012/apr/30/european-cooperative-society-laws

As far as I know, it's usually possible to start a European #cooperative under national law, which might be easier, and convert it to a European coop later. At least one of our members did this.

@stefanieschulte untagging everyone, because I'm uncomfortable with tagging so many people for so long.
I've been looking into governance models for the Mastodon Project in the past week. But I don't have anything solid to share yet.
@maloki I think it's an interesting question, both for the Mastodon project itself and for running individual instances (and I guess there might be a variety of approaches).
@maloki ... and of course, if you have any questions about #cooperatives in Germany, please don't hesitate to ask me. You would need to join a cooperative auditing association, and we are the one covering most of Germany (including the region where - I think - Gargron lives).
