Creative block as to how the Mastodon /about page should really look. Don't want to make it too similar to joinmastodon.org, or people might get confused. But I love the joinmastodon.org design so much now
@Gargron perhaps try going from what purpose / audience each of them has, and identify differences, move from there? :)
@eylul one has to present mastodon the software/network. one has to present a particular place - e.g. mastodon.art, what makes it special, but ALSO make sure ppl are aware it's mastodon and what it is.

@Gargron *nods*. So joinmastodon is a one size fits all explanation that explains what the network is (often for the purpose of people choosing a node).

One big contrast I see is that rather than an efficient design, the about page also needs some flexibility. A template can be nice, but the power of each node is that they can explain what mastodon is in a way that is optimized to their community, rather than a happy medium. [cont]

@Gargron also another thing that can vary is that, we have nodes that are directly related to mastodon, vs those that are tied to ongoing communities who wanted this extra communication channel. So they might need less explanation.

I am thinking out loud here so the question is:

how do people come to node directly? (from where?) and in those cases how much do they need to know and what do they need to know? if this makes any sense.
