@Gargron *nods*. So joinmastodon is a one size fits all explanation that explains what the network is (often for the purpose of people choosing a node).
One big contrast I see is that rather than an efficient design, the about page also needs some flexibility. A template can be nice, but the power of each node is that they can explain what mastodon is in a way that is optimized to their community, rather than a happy medium. [cont]
@Gargron also another thing that can vary is that, we have nodes that are directly related to mastodon, vs those that are tied to ongoing communities who wanted this extra communication channel. So they might need less explanation.
I am thinking out loud here so the question is:
how do people come to node directly? (from where?) and in those cases how much do they need to know and what do they need to know? if this makes any sense.
