I've never heard a tornado warning interrupt the radio here in the #pdx area before. Apparently people in Clackamas county need to get to shelter, like, now? We don't know how to do that here

WWA Summary for Tornado Warning Issued by PQR

The National Weather Service is your best source for complete weather forecast and weather related information on the web!

@jamey Take cover now! If you are outdoors, move to the innermost room on the lowest floor of a permanent building. If you are in a vehicle or portable building, YOU ARE NOT SAFE. If you are outside or unable to find more substantial cover, move to a drainage ditch, lay prone and cover your head and neck with your arms (similar to earthquake precautions).
@jamey If you are in the tornado warned area, TAKE COVER NOW. Don't fuck around seeing where it is, get to a safe location first, *then* sort out where the tornado is specifically.
@jamey Watches mean you have everything you need for the watched weather, warnings mean there's one in the area, right now. Remember the Macheezmo Mouse Scale, #Portland
Also while I'm thinking of it, #Portland, if you see the National Weather Service at Portland issue a Severe Thunderstorm Warning, you *DEFINITELY DO* need to take it the same as a tornado warning. That office in particular has no chill when it comes to rain because locals are highly desensitized to rain. If NWS Portland says "Warning" that means "pretend it's an earthquake that can throw cars and cows at you from the next county over". Take cover first, ask "where" and "which way" after.
@jamey Since I see the pattern y'all have tonight is actually more like what we get here in Oklahoma in April, I'll straight up say this will probably not be an isolated incident and torandos tend to arrive in swarms, so be weather aware and keep your weather alerts on loud. If you get a tornado warning at night, DO NOT HESITATE, TAKE COVER NOW. Pretend it's a pre-earthquake warning and find the innermost space in a permanent building and take earthquake precautions, covering face and head.
@jamey If you happen to have a bicycle, motorcycle, baseball or football helmet handy that you're fitted for, put it on. If you have no interior rooms or an RV or mobile home is your most substantial protection, look for mattresses or bathtubs and try to use either for protection. Perform culturally appropriate pre-death rites.
@jamey This has been basically somewhere between 3-times-a-year and 4-times-a-day for me every spring and fall for 15 years. I've been through 4 major earthquakes and 7 tornadoes since moving to Tulsa from Portland.

@BalooUriza I should perhaps have made more clear that I was personally dozens of miles away, in Portland, not in Molalla where the funnel was spotted. But I appreciate your concern. It's not clear to me how serious it ended up being; I haven't found any news reports of damage or injuries. The only coverage I've found is from KATU: https://katu.com/news/local/tornado-warning-issued-for-molalla-oregon-area

I was worried for the people living in that rural town outside Portland because I doubt many of them heard any warnings or were prepared, and I'm still worried that this may start happening more often here, where many of us have no experience with this kind of weather.

@jamey where I'm from in rural Alabama we had 1960s civil defense equipment. We called it "The Voice of God" because you could hear it in your car through both the heaviest weather and the loudest music at the same time.
@jamey Lucky Clackamas. The emergency alerting system by Everbridge for Washington Co. was down, again.
