How tf did I not think of this?? 🤯

I've been a fan of Greek mythology since childhood.

Mind you, Narcissus was attractive and the pool was beautiful and clear.

@MaryAustinBooks

Good lookin' out, that's exactly right.

@MaryAustinBooks

It was my first thought when I heard M Trump had personally become involved with a reflecting pool, before I learned which it was.

Some of his vogue posing indicates he really does practice in front of the mirrors. (A true *poseur*! https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/poseur#French)

And in case you missed it: his infamously badly applied orange make up? Think of his reflection on a polished mirror of gold.

@MaryAustinBooks the normal enshitification.

@MaryAustinBooks

Wouldn't that just be the sweetest poetic justice ever?!

@EricBono
OH YES! That's why I talk about it so much. Of course, he does far worse things all the time, but this is so visible and humiliating it really is damaging his image even with the dumbest buggers in the country. I don't see him wasting away by the pool, but as much coverage as it's gotten, I do think it is seriously contributing to his downfall!

Plus, it's bags of fun to joke about. Score!

@MaryAustinBooks Now if he could only drown in it
@renardboy
Hey, he's the one who suggested internal use of cleaning agents!

@MaryAustinBooks

Compared to Cheetolini, the slimy, green, and toxic reflecting pool is squeaky clean.

@Benhm3
I know I'd rather risk arrest touching the fetid waters of that pool than come anywhere near Trump. Not that he's physically capable of rape any more, but we've all heard about the smell.
@MaryAustinBooks @Benhm3 He's still capable of other forms of sexual abuse.
@MaryAustinBooks Mythology should be a warning. It's an infinite regress. There were gods/goddesses/deities jealous of humans, jealous of mountains, jealous of each other... It was never a happy ending. What's left?
@lankohr The goose/golden egg thing that has everyone making goose memes!
@MaryAustinBooks I think Jesus (the gnostic version) meant that as he said: "Your gods are animals."
@MaryAustinBooks presumably because you're not obsessed with yourself?
@thomasfuchs
Well, hopefully not, but I *am* obsessed with Greek myths!
@MaryAustinBooks tbf looking at flocs of algae beats seeing the reflection of this specific narcissus
@ASprinkleofSage
The pool probably smells better too, as much as I hear it reeks!
@MaryAustinBooks Ah, it does kind of track with Narcissus, since the reflecting pool is foul, discolored, has no circulation to speak of, and has paint caked on it that's peeling off. Pretty spot on, tbh.
@wordshaper @MaryAustinBooks
The reflection pool of Dorian Narcissus Trump.

@MaryAustinBooks

No matter what they try the same face keeps looking back...

@kintyre

Too true!

"Haha, Trump made the Reflecting Pool green and stinky!"
"Stop, the Reflecting Pool is a distraction from the Epstein Files."
"Haha, Epstein's BFF made the Reflecting Pool green and stinky!"

See? We can multitask.

@MaryAustinBooks

"Narcissus was attractive and the pool was beautiful and clear."
... well the difference is appropriate then. 😁

@MaryAustinBooks

“all great world-historic facts and personages appear, so to speak, twice. … the first time as tragedy, the second time as farce.”

— Karl Marx

@MaryAustinBooks @briankrebs The old gods has a lot to learn us still.
@MaryAustinBooks When you reflect on this concept, things start to become clearer, so to speak.
If Narcissus was so beautiful that he fell in love with his own reflection in the water of that pond, would our world be a reflection - an opposite one - of that world? Our Narcissus, Trump, beholding his own ugliness in the reflecting pool fiasco and allowing his self-loathing, which he tries to conceal, to consume and trap him, condemning him to have his every decision decided by it?
@PopTarts
Well today he is publicly crashing TF out over his humiliation with Iran and the pool, so I'd say yes.
@MaryAustinBooks Right, rather than a narcissist he's a megalomaniacal clone of arsonist psychopath Nero, without Nero's intellect, taste, wealth & empire, just a botched, cheap imitation with the label "Made in Russia/China" wiped away.
@MaryAustinBooks and Trump wishes both that he were beautiful and that the pool was clear
@MaryAustinBooks This isn't even the first time this theme has gone around.
@MaryAustinBooks it perfectly reflects his stagnant swampiness now.
@MaryAustinBooks
Just more distractions for the rubes guys….

@MaryAustinBooks

"He knows not what he sees, but what he sees invites him. Even as the pool deceives his eyes, it tempts them with delights. But why, o foolish boy, do you persist? Why try to grip an image? He does not exist—"
—Ovid, Metamorphoses

@kali And he was still less absurd than Clavicular. I don't recall Narcissus hitting himself with a hammer in the myths.
@MaryAustinBooks OMG -- right? How did this not occur to me as well? 🤯 I swear to god, if somebody tired to submit this crap as a story to a movie producer they'd be laughed off the planet.

@MaryAustinBooks "Narcissus was attractive and the pool was beautiful and clear" —

So we're in a perversion of mythology.

#USA #trump #TwistedMythology

@dalfen @MaryAustinBooks

And considering the rather active love life of Zeus, reality really had to go above and beyond to achieve perversion status.

@dalfen @davidtheeviloverlord
I've always found it hilarious that the only two gods in Greek mythology who were even faithful to their wives were the god of the underworld and the god of drunken revelry.

And yes, reality managed to top that. 😳

@MaryAustinBooks @davidtheeviloverlord Oh so interesting!
I didn't know that about Greek mythology.

By "reality," do you mean trump being faithful to his wife (if we're comparing him to a Greek god lol... don't let him hear that or we'll blow up his ego more).

@dalfen @MaryAustinBooks

He was as faithful as a Greek God. Zeus.

@davidtheeviloverlord @dalfen
Besides marital infidelity, stalking and rape are completely normalized in Greek mythology. You read the kids' versions of the myths as a kid, fall in love, and then read the real myths. 😂 And still love it, but... yeesh.

@MaryAustinBooks @dalfen

I've seen a quote somewhere that said the Greek gods were just what people would be, if no one was strong enough to punish them when they did the wrong thing.

@MaryAustinBooks But look at everyone else obsessing over it...

Look around you, the place is full of narcissists.
