Anyone know how to translate a PDF?

I have several sewing patterns in German, I'd love to translate them to English. I haven't heard if there's an easy way of doing this, anyone know?

I realize I could try using AI, but considering how precise sewing can be and how hallucinatory AI gets, I'd really rather do it in a more reliably accurate and better-for-my-conscience way, if possible?

I feel like this is one of those things where someone will go, "Oh there's an app for that!"

(feel free to boost!) :)

@hollie It really depends how easily you can access to the original content or at least textual content from the pdf (can you copy/paste it for instance?)
The worst case would be a pdf being just like a big picture. Then, you would need an OCR tool to try to recognize texts ; but it’s more likely to have errors
@hollie Most of PDF editing tools are paid tools but I think Canva could be useful
@hollie without *wanting* to recommend google of all things, I'm protty sure that google translate can translate documents/PDFs
@kruemmelspalter Thank you! This worked! Geez I'd no idea it could do that! :)
@hollie I would just copy the text and use a translate app. 🤷‍♂️

@hollie

You can import .pdf, .xlsx, and .docx into Deepl and translate them.

You only need to apply for the free version of Deepl.

@hollie there's a (maybe Linux only, but I seem to think it's python, so it would be universal) command line tool named pdf2text (or similar). It extracts the pdf to a text file which would be easier to translate. Of course, the graphics wouldn't be there, but maybe good enough?
@hollie I just read the above solution. Cool!
@hollie I mean, that's a job. You could pay someone to do this, just like you would pay a carpenter or an electrician.
