Icebergs calved from the piedmont glacier Breiðamerkurjökull float in the glacial lagoon of Jökulsárlón until the ebb tide takes them out into the ocean.

Once in the North Atlantic sea, the wave action deposits a large amount of this ice onto the black beaches of Fellsfjara, also known as the Diamond Beach.

On this day in November, a brisk wind was raising the waves and smashing them against the turquoise ice clutter.

@mo Magnificent ! Do you have a video of this ?
@pacman
Yes, it was! I might have one, I'll look and add it to my PeerTube if there is. 😊

"Your wish is my command!"
(It said, disappearing in a cloud of slowly drifting sparkles.)
@mo i was there too and it was truely amazing when a big iceberg split and one turned over. The noise was amazing. The water in the lagoon, and the ice is 8000 years old. This is how long it takes from where the rain goes down to end up in the lagoon. They gave us something to lick on. Licking on ice from 8000 years ago. But the bad news: The glacier recedes hundreds of meters every year.
