Let me be explicit. The massive heat waves we're seeing around the world more extreme and frequent due to human-caused #climatechange. And these heat waves are going to continue to worsen because of our failure to reduce carbon pollution. Just one of the many costs of #climate change.

@petergleick

Don't worry, the collapse of the Atlantic overturning current will cool them down..... /s

@petergleick Ultimately, we started the path to the end of our civilisation when people could acquire wealth and power. And corporations like lumbering slow changing behemoths that are beholden to shareholders and actually not allowed to care about anything else. It is all insane.

@petergleick

Have we reached a tipping point, that is the question…

@xs4me2 @petergleick
at least one, but don't worry there are many more for us to pass in the coming decades.

@duckwhistle @petergleick

Like manipulative megalomaniac would be dictators you mean?

@petergleick I'll never forget a science teacher who explicitly told me he was legally required to show us propaganda that claimed global warming was a natural phenomenon, actually, said to us after the film when kids regurgitated other propaganda pieces they saw, "Even if warming is just part of a natural cycle, you can't convince me that all this crap we've been putting in the air is doing nothing."

@petergleick

We burn fossil resources to immolate the natural world. The global supply chain exists to cannibalize the planet

The most beneficial and climate resilient measures are the least expensive: walkable communities and localized farming. Restoring water basins achieve multiple things at once: resilience, decoupling and a safer, healthier, more prosperous, and affordable community.

Soil is the climate.

@petergleick dont stress Europe, once the AMOC shuts down it will become cooler.

@crumbletiltskin @petergleick

But the heat will not disappear. It will stay on the planet.

@petergleick its getting ridiculous now, world leaders have been absolute failures on this. Frankly there will have to be a climate war to stop planet destroyers like Trump and friends.

@criticalangle @petergleick

World leaders have done a much better job than the average American, I can tell you that for sure.

@petergleick As thousands start dying they will blame Biden for trying to support electric cars.
@petergleick climatechange is a word couned by big oil. The adequate words are #GlobalWarming and #ClimateCrisis
@petergleick it’s time to go back to calling it global warming, folks. “climate change” was a big oil psyop
@petergleick that's fine, we can just buy AC units.

@petergleick The gray color is correct, it burns everything to ashes.
@petergleick Hi so apparently here in Switzerland the traintracks are breaking due to simple heat expansion. Not great, leads to a less reliable public transport net and an increased cost in maintenance. Well the thing is, we'll be able to afford it. But just imagine a country that is already struggling with money for infrastructure, struggling with political unrest, corruption and social injustice to a much higher degree. The people least responsible for climate change btw.
