I will not set up another chat platform. I will not set up another chat platform. I will not set up another chat platform. I will not set up another chat platform…

So um… #xmpp or #DeltaChat?

@yehor Jami? 😶‍🌫️
@torf hmm… that looks interesting
@yehor deltachat is more user friendly if you to want bring some friends
@MXC48 yeah, I think everything is more user friendly than xmpp. I tried Prosody server twice ))
@yehor for android the most convivial app is Monocles Chat, but for other platforms like IOS... 😬

@yehor

While #Jabber/#XMPP exists since 1999, I came late to the party and only use it since ≈ 2014. Got all my friends (but two), family, colleagues on it.

Meanwhile I co-admin both #prosody and #ejabberd instances. Relatively easy nowadays. I also use bridges to IRC, Matrix, and SMS.

@yehor xmpp has been there for many years, and will probably be there for many more

@valhalla @yehor

It's the #LindyEffect, which I heard the first time about in 2019 from @jcbrand, who happens to be the main developer of #ConverseJS, a very nice #Jabber/#XMPP web client 😉

@yehor
Both, hard mode: set up a #XMPP and write "deltachidge", a deltachat/xmpp gateway based on https://slidge.im/
slidge.im — Gateways from XMPP to Other Networks

Slidge is a chat gateway library for XMPP built in Python, and a set of gateways for other networks.

@yehor #xmpp can be great if you really know what you're doing, but I say +1 for #Deltachat, always default encrypts. Having multiple relays per profile is also awesome.

@yehor setting up a @snikket_im server is dead easy. All modern clients encrypt by default, too.

But as an #xmpp client developer I might obviously be biased.
On the other hand I'm a happy xmpp user since 2015 and only later in 2020 joined the Monal team.

@Monal hm.. thanks, I’ll definitely try snikket

@yehor great to hear! :)

Just be aware that the snikket IOS app has a few rough edges regarding notifications for incoming messages. Most people use Monal on iOS instead for a better experience (Monal is fully compatible).

If you have any questions regarding Monal, don't hesitate to ask me :)
