I absolutely agree, that "a cross-platform mass-user focused app with a consistent UX across the platforms" is missing desperately in the #Jabber/#XMPP ecosystem.

There are really good clients for Jabber, but none of them fits above description.

AFAIK, both #Snikket/#Borogove by @snikket_im and #Fluux by @ProcessOne try to close that gap.

Still, I prefer the approach of Delta building on #Rust and #Tauri, instead of #Haxe or #Typescript. #YKINMKBYKIOK.

Hab's mal geteilt, auch wenn meine Bubble eher die von #Jabber/#XMPP ist als die von Signal. Aber machne haben ja beides oder nutzen es via Gateway. Bin gespannt, was ob Du was rausfindest.

There is a tiny trigger in the original post, that is hard to ignore, though: The words "de-bigtech" and Signal together 😉

Signal is (according to themselves) inextricable from AWS and Google. It depends on #bigTech. That shouldn't be an excuse to derail questions, but it needs self-discipline 🙂

That being said, #Jabber/#XMPP might be a solution for the Signal desktop use case, with a (self-hosted?) #slidge gateway. Probably not easy.

I never tried a peer-to-peer messaging app. How well does it work with multiple devices? I.e. I have #Jabber/#XMPP both at home and at my workplace. The devices are never switched on at the same time, until I clone myself 🙂 Still, thanks to the (trustworthy, self-hosted) server, all incoming and outgoing messages are synchronized. I wonder, if/how a peer-to-peer IM can do that.
