as an #actuallyautistic person who has always had a hard time intuiting unwritten rules, i gotta say i have not been loving the sentiment i have been seeing from leftists and anarchists telling me that their ideal society is one where no rules will be written, because which rules are necessary changes so frequently and every rule has exceptions and we can't write them *all* down and really the rules should be obvious to everyone, and everyone will be allowed and encouraged to enforce the unwritten rules through violence

whether intentional or not it feels like they're telling me "I'm sure you'd be able to figure out the unwritten rules if your life depended on it" and then wondering why i don't like them

must be i just want an excuse to be a bigot or a debatebro i guess

@AVincentInSpace Most of the leftists I know are pretty serious about having clear rules and processes. Especially the anarchists, who are kind of infamous for having long meetings to define process.
@AVincentInSpace Of course, most of the anarchists I know are autistic.

@AVincentInSpace
"I do not consider absolute liberty to be liberating. In fact, I'd even hazard to say that absolute liberty is one of the most evil forms of tyranny."

The above is a very loosely paraphrased thought from Socrates and yes, he's very much right. Because if there's absolute liberty, how can you hold someone accountable for harm?

Freedom doesn't come from tearing down boundaries. That's called negative freedom (T. Snyder, On Freedom; very strongly recommended read). Which is why I can relate to your sentiment because there are far too many "liberators"/"leftists"/"anarchists" (erf, I despise labels so already listing these makes my brain scream) who seem to either not understand that or willingly ignore that.

How much it applies to anarchists? By definition it shouldn't since anarchists mainly refuse hierarchy but the general understanding of anarchism has been twisted a lot.

@AVincentInSpace good point. don't think i've heard any anarchists say this out loud, myself, but thinking about it — it sure is implied…
