During its IPO, SpaceX raised the planned billions at a fixed issue price of $135. Whether the share price subsequently rises to $225 or falls to $154 makes no difference to the billions of dollars now actually sitting in SpaceX’s accounts.
Ironically, an extremely volatile, liquid market with high trading volume—driven in part by short sellers and options—attracts even more large institutional investors.
A "dead," illiquid stock would be more detrimental to future capital raises.
