While I don't have any mobile device I can install #postmarketOS on (other than my Nexus 7 tablet), I _do_ have my x86-based corebooted Chromebook... Why don't I install the generic x86_64 port onto it?

And that's what I did. It works!

...The touchscreen does not work for whatever reason even though it worked under Arch, which kinda defeats the purpose of what I need this laptop for. :/ Also Phosh is kinda slow. I'll probably go back, just for now.

I ended up installing Plasma Mobile to try that out. Like it, seems a bit more responsive at least. But right now I'm just reinstalling Arch.

Still love you, pmOS! Will be back soon hopefully...

@ROllerozxa There might be a specific kernel you would’ve needed to swap to for touchscreen for that device…

I helped a friend install Linux Mint onto a Microsoft Surface (idr what gen/year) and had to switch to a different kernel to make the touchscreen work on it

@Hettyc_Tracyn Most likely, but when running Arch (which I just reinstalled) the touchscreen works out of the box with all the linux-firmware stuff installed. Shows up as an "Elan Touchscreen" along with "Elan Touchpad", but on pmOS only the touchpad device shows up in evtest.

It's no worries though, the primary purpose I brought this out for was to test Linux touchscreen support in Principia, so any distro is fine... I'll probably end up doing Alpine packaging for Principia in a VM anyway.

@ROllerozxa
I run far, far away whenever I see the word 'Celeron'. Maybe one too many memories of my first laptop being so painfully slow because of it...

@edml Oh yes it's definitively not the most powerful. But I got to keep it for a pretty symbolical sum when I finished 9th grade. And importantly for what I'm doing right now, it has a touchscreen, and can run regular Linux!

Abused it yesterday for some fun build time benchmarks yesterday:

@ROllerozxa Does your Nexus 7 work with Postmarketos ?
The flashing never worked on my tablet...

@zaunz yes. took some tries (a lot of tries) for me to consistently get into APX mode but I managed to flash both the bootloader and then flash pmOS with the uboot fastboot mode thing. it's specifically a 2012 model nexus 7, wifi model without mobile data support.

Attached: 2 images Finally I have managed to flash #postmarketOS onto my old Nexus 7 tablet, the only device I have that supports pmOS. It took some attempts (...a lot of attempts) to get into APX mode and do the whole backup the bootloader and flash u-boot thing, and accidentally bricking the bootloader once during the process, before I could actually flash the pmOS image onto it. So cool! ...Well, it doesn't have hardware acceleration, XFCE is not really intended for touchscreen devices, and in general it seems slow even when I'm connected via SSH.
