Woohoo! I have hot water again!

Now powered (mostly) by the sun since it's an electric heater and I have lots of solar panels. 🙂

(It'd be helpful if the sun came out, though.... just sayin...)

@bigzaphod Did you get anything fancy like those heat pump water heaters? We have a hybrid one.
@a no just normal electric this time. The heat pump ones cost too much extra still, imo.
@bigzaphod There was some rebate program going on when we bought ours which made it worth it, but I otherwise agree. We’ve also had terrible reliability issues with ours; the manufacturer replaced it once, but the replacement had the same problem, just delayed by a few months, and of course now it’s out of warranty.
@a oh geez. I've heard a lot of people complain about the heat pump making their basement/room super cold too. Seems like these are solvable things... but... maybe they just don't care enough to fix them yet.
@bigzaphod The cooling has been good for us. It it wasn’t for the reliability issue I’d be happy with it.
@bigzaphod regardless of the circumstances of how this came to be getting off the gas heater and onto electric is a good thing so try to take solace in that.
@gedeonm totally - I love that part! All we need now is a new stove and I can get rid of the entire gas tank. And considering we're gonna be in debt for all this stuff anyway, we're probably just gonna do it, tbh.
@bigzaphod If you get an induction cooktop I’m going to be mega jealous. Just saying. I’ve wanted one for years and years.
@gedeonm very tempted by that.. although we'd honestly need a bunch of new pans and stuff. So... might not go that route. I love the idea of it.. dunno yet.
@bigzaphod @gedeonm ++ we had to replace like 80% of our cookware. We doled it out over several months, and boy was it irritating not having a 12” pan for awhile >_<

@shadowbottle @bigzaphod I admit I might’ve had some ulterior induction motives when I bought this a while back 😏

@gedeonm @shadowbottle @bigzaphod This was my strategy.

For Christmas one year we got each other induction friendly pans.

The cooktop came the following year.

@gedeonm @bigzaphod stay away from Samsung! They are pretty great in general though. I miss being able to cook store bought tortillas and char bell peppers but holy crap can you get to boil in like no time flat. Cast iron and carbon steel are fantastic, too.
@gedeonm @bigzaphod We switched to induction about 6 years ago; and it’s made such a huge difference in how hot the kitchen gets when I’m cooking.
I don’t know how people still put up with gas or radiant heat stoves now.
Sounds a bit snobbish, but I will never willingly go back to cooking indoors any other way.
