Hello everyone! Bird found in distress. Help needed.
So this Eurasian Jay was found on a tree today, being there and screaming for many hours already, as told by people living here.

The bird was clearly in distress not moving, but turning their head often. After that the bird carefully got off the tree and dropped to ground. Waited for a while silent, still as in pain, now started yelling again.

My guess would be that it is some injury considering all said and the fact there is a house with huge glass windows right here. Gusty winds are present. The weather is not particularly hot today, 25C (77F), but was much hotter on Monday.

What is the right thing to do in this situation? Any advise and boosts would be greatly appreciated.

Jay story follow up

Thank you to everyone for help and support!
After trying to call 10 places, couldn’t find where to take the jay to. It was getting late.
Next day the bird seemed to feel better after getting some rest. When let out of the box, the jay flew to a tree and, after some time, flew away.

Probably that was concussion caused by hitting one of those huge windows, but I haven’t seen whatever actually happened.

@Readinglover hello, firstly thank you for trying to help the jay 💙

I would recommend to get professional help (wildlife association, vet) as soon as possible.

Are you able to capture the bird? If so, gently use a towel or cloth to wrap making sure to support its body and wings.

Place the bird in a cardboard box with ventilation holes. Put the box in a dark and quiet room until you contact a wildlife association or vet.

Do not feed him, do not offer water. This is very important.

Good luck and thank you 🍀🤞

@epistosphere thank you so much for your helpful response. We contacted a vet, will try with them to do something. I called 8 vet businesses though and they just pointed to each other and told me that maybe the zoo would take the bird away. I know it is a bad idea.

Unfortunately here many people including those who first saw what happened don’t seem to care about such things, often don’t even pretend to care

@Readinglover Thanks to you for not closing your eyes and for trying to find a solution for the jay.

I know vets are not used to birds, unfortunately. Thanks very much for calling them even if it was not successful.

May I ask in which country you are?
