In one of the most grim twists I can imagine, a datacenter shutting down due to climate change: https://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]rg/msg80526.html

[FRnOG] [TECH] cogent rennes

@cwebber @avuko Im in Rennes. several people here witnessed the AC bail out and posted about it. I had no idea it was final, as in, not adequately sized for these temperatures.
@cwebber @avuko these are old LAMBDANET france sites bought by Cogent, start of the 2000s. cooling system engineering is roughly 25 years old and has not been updated since, afaik

@kouett @cwebber

In a sane world, the climate wouldn’t have changed so disastrously in 25 years… 🤯

@cwebber What makes it grim? Is this data centre involved in some sort of wholesome computation?

@avuko

@cwebber @avuko

Would have been even more impressive had it been an
#AWS, #GCP or #Azure facility.

@cwebber @avuko

"We would like to inform you of an exceptional situation affecting Cogent communications Data Centre in Rennes (AV CHARDONNET - LORANS 30F)

"Due to unprecedented and historically high temperatures in the region, it has become impossible to maintain the environmental conditions required for the safe operation of equipment hosted at the facility. Despite a thorough on-site inspection carried out by a technician, no viable solution has been identified that would allow us to restore adequate cooling capacity under the current circumstances."

#Datacenters #ClimateChange #ExtremeHeat

I'll bet the #NuclearPlants have shut down for the same reason! @cwebber @avuko

@DoomsdaysCW @cwebber @avuko

The solar panels have no choice but to maximum output!

@cwebber @avuko grim? or hilarious?

About the only funny thing about the heatwave. So many people are going to die.
