Do you think there is still a room for Prismo in fediverse? We have couple of amazing projects already, doing something similar or much more (lemmy and piefed as an examples). Would love to hear your thoughts in the comments!

Yes, there is still a room
No, move on to something else
Poll ends at .

@prismo does it solve something1 the others don't? Then yes, absolutely.

Do you enjoy working on it? Then absolutely yes, too.

  • where something can be stuff like "I wanted to learn AP, or ruby/node/frontend dev/whatever", or "everything I self host is ruby, why not a link aggregator". ↩︎

  • @algernon @prismo the only real difference is that Prismo was always focused more on being a one-subreddit (or However we can call it on fedi) only app instead of being multi subreedits. So each instance was more like hackernews or lobsters rather than reddit. Specialized instances instead of multi purpose massive ones.

    The question is - is that enough to justify it’s existence? :)

    @mbajur @prismo considering both HN and lobsters exist alongside reddit, I'd say yes, yes it does.

    Case in point: I'm considering selfhosting an "interesting links" kind of thing. A link aggregator I can post links I find interesting, and perhaps others could also post stuff there they think I'd find interesting.

    Prismo sounds closer to that than lemmy, as far as I can judge. I don't need multiple subreddits, I only need one.

    @algernon that indeed sounds like a good case for prismo. Well, what can i say, not a crazy amount of people voted in the pool so far but still everybody is mostly for prismo existence. The only issue really is time and being able to afford life as i already maintain @pppond but will see how many people shows interest in prismo. Then i can decide what to do next.

    btw. @pppond could technically also fulfill your need

    @prismo

    There is only a room if you support the C2S API and treat ActivityPub as the Open Protocol it was thought to be and try to be compliant, which includes ignoring-mastodon-first.

    Activity Vocabulary

    @sl007 is there any criticism towards Mastodon in this regard? And what do you mean by "ignoring-mastodon-first" ?

    @mbajur

    well, mastodon does simply not support the C2S part.
    This is what the "Conformance Section" was made for.
    It is NOT criticism to say what parts of an interoperable **standard** anyone supports or how many percent.
    It is rather feeling sorry.

    "ignoring-mastodon-first" was too short (39° outside - but under a roof, sorry)

    It means that for your beta you should write fully conformant ActivityPub first and then do a compability layer to mastodon for your dreams which had become true at this point …

    @prismo what is Prismo? Sorry first time hearing of it. Screenshot in the README is helpful but doesn’t tell the story of the value prop.
    @heybenji long story short - Prismo is a federated hacker News or lobsters clone. Or a single-sub reddit clone :)
    @prismo I see so a “topical” place where posts can get upvoted or downvoted.
    @heybenji yes, more or less :)
