The ancient builders of Stonehenge placed the giant stones with such precision that each year on the summer solstice, you can see pictures of them all over social media.

#solstice

@maxleibman Don’t forget the hilarious images of them adjusting for daylight savings. Usually when the US changes its clocks rather than when Europe does.
@maxleibman Ah, ðey foresawen ye olde Faþebooke!
@maxleibman
I’ll bet they all high-fived the first time it worked
@Nerde @maxleibman das alles 3 fingerbreit nach links ist ein wenig aufwändig.
Irgendwann muß auch mal gut sein
@maxleibman They don’t even know how old they are which adds to the enduring mystique
@maxleibman Intrestingly they are positioned to amplify sound which indicates that our ancient ancestors were indeed ravers.
@maxleibman And just at the right time of day, the sun shines directly through two arches. Why they chose quarter to eleven in the morning is anybody's guess.
@maxleibman @antoinechambertloir Stonehenge always makes me think of this
@maxleibman If you hold them up just right you can use them to locate a Sith Wayfinder.

@maxleibman

With nothing but a wooden stick, clay pots, a water clock, and a handful of seeds, civilization can begin again.

This simple experiment turns sunlight into time, shadows into geometry, and counted grains into the first steps toward measuring pi. It shows how basic tools can rebuild the foundations of science, order, and high culture. anytime, anywhere. We can start over if we make mistakes and reduce our current civilization to rubble and ashes. We are not doomed!

@mobidic @maxleibman Also, a stick and a shadow, at two locations, proves that the earth is not flat. Ask the ancient Greeks!
@maxleibman and they chose the location for its proximity to the A303.
@maxleibman @lisamelton Sister tried this morning. It’s quite hard to get thousands of people having a rave out the way :)

@BenCotterill @maxleibman @lisamelton

That's honestly a great picture though!

@maxleibman As the project manager opposite me an hour ago got up to put down the blinds, I said that in a thousand years from now archaeologists would marvel at the design of our building, perfectly aligned such that on the winter solstice the sunlight would come through the window and blind everyone inside.
@maxleibman 🤦🤦‍♂️🤦‍♀️🤦🤦‍♂️🤦‍♀️🤦🤦‍♂️🤦‍♀️ well played.
