Veteran video game score composer Bobby Prince has died at the age of 81.

Responsible for the sound track of some of the most seminal FPS games released in the early to mid 90's, his music was etched into the consciousness of countless gamers discovering early 3D worlds.

His score for Doom was inducted into the National Recording Registry in 2026.

I always wondered how they got away with just straight up copying popular songs almost note for note from the likes of Metallica and Alice In Chains.

I guess transposing to MIDI made it a transformative enough work?
