Right. A ftiend of mine is trying to find a junior developer role in an EU country for a 19yo trans woman with an EU passport who has to escape abusive parents. She's at the "Writes her own operating system" level, so not your average 19yo.

Anyone hiring? Links to job specs or adverts appreciated.

@JennyList Did you have any more specifics? That’s quite a high level, so some projects she’s been on and could link to for my contacts would be cool.

@JennyList Thanks. I’ve passed this on.
@gimulnautti ,
@alina was in a similar position a few months ago. She now works for Hetzner.
@JennyList
@JennyList what country/language?

@the_sign_painter they're Irish. But any EU country.

NL preferred, they have a support network there.

@JennyList I'm in Zürich, but easy to migrate with EU citizenship. Can ask around if still interested?

@the_sign_painter they are Irish, so yes. Thanks.

@JennyList I can maybe help. Happy to have a chat to look at the puzzle together.

@the_sign_painter

@JennyList an Irish passport would allow them to be in the UK is that an option at all?
@clare_hooley Honestly not, for a trans person in 2026.

@JennyList @clare_hooley Yeah don’t come here right now if there’s a better option. The right wing press and the government aren’t on our side.

I’m going down to London for a mass lobby for trans equality next week. Something that I thought we won two decades ago.

@amyworrall @clare_hooley at risk of shilling my own work, I've just written the escape manual. https://transrescue.org/how-to-get-out
How To Get Out - Trans Rescue

Practical information to help you survive. While we often gain attention here at Trans Rescue for our work directly extracting trans people from particularly dangerous places, much of what we do involves dispensing advice and information to people self-extracting from countries of new concern, or CONC countries. These are the places where being trans has […]

@JennyList @clare_hooley thanks. I'll see when I've got the emotional space to be able to read it!

I'm not planning to leave soon, because so much of what makes life worth living for me (people, hobbies, family) is here. I'd need a LOT of strength and resilience that I don't think I currently possess to be able to move countries and make a fresh start. I really hope it doesn't get to the point that my hand is forced.

@JennyList @amyworrall @clare_hooley Does the advice cover the elderly homeowning retired person ?

@staringatclouds @amyworrall @clare_hooley well, read it. :)

You might want to look at a rentista visa, usually for someone such as a retiree who has a guaranteed fixed income.

@amyworrall @JennyList yes, I thought of prefacing the post with how I find the direction the UK is going horrid, but decided not to, as there are still trans-positive employers and trans-positive spaces. As ever what’s best is very much dependent on specific circumstances, and getting a job is part of that.
@clare_hooley I'd look at the recent win that 'For Women Scotland' just had, it's disgusting. This country is not a good move for trans folks right now. Actively hostile.
@JennyList my employer is trans-friendly and has a job opening. Not sure how strict they are with regards to diploma requirements https://www.buas.nl/en/working-at-buas/vacancies/ai-research-and-developer-assistant-1305365
@raphv interesting. Thanks.

@JennyList

@mntmn are you hiring?

@bonkers @JennyList unfortunately not, money is very tight atm :/
@JennyList well, we have some open positions at https://www.nedap.com/en/careers/vacancies?content%5Bquery%5D=developer and we're generally very open to diversity; to illustrate: we preferably mark our toilet facilities with 'urinal' and 'bowl'. Oh, and primary company communication language is English, with Dutch as secondary.

@JennyList if they need a place to stay, we might be able to offer temporary stay in the fall. We're still working to get our guest bedroom in shape. It has a pantry which makes it relatively independent. We speak Dutch, English and German and we are easy going with people in the LGBTI+ community.

We live roughly in the middle of the Bollenstreek: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duin-_en_Bollenstreek

Oh, and I've been rock bottom when young because of a narcissistic mom and fled the house .

@wiert That's appreciated. I do not know where they might end up.

@JennyList hopefully everything ends up all right.

I'm glad I saw quite a few job options coming along. Hopefully for some other region people can help with temporary housing as well.

@JennyList Do ask and let me know. Our company has Spectrum movement, where you can be self as a part LGBT+ community, pride month ongoing and Prague itself is cosmopolitan enough for everyone not harrass her
