#ThrowbackThurday to the late 80’s safety posters that were still up when I started grad school in the last year of the 90’s. Saved this one to put up outside my own lab.

@GetzlerChem

My vision has been saved at least once or twice by my high school chemistry teacher's "DO AS YOU OUGHTA, ADD ACID TO WATTA!" poster.

@stevegis_ssg @GetzlerChem But do you hear it in your head in a thick New Jersey accent?

@SRLevine @GetzlerChem

Oh, obviously!

We were in CT but he was a hoot and he did accents sometimes.

@stevegis_ssg I just taught this mnemonic to a student this week!!
@GetzlerChem I would totally put that up in our lab
@sarae I wish I still had extras to share! At some point they moved to different signage and there was a whole stack on the free table, which is hui ended up with this one
@GetzlerChem Safety glasses are so important, you always wear them while in the lab
@GetzlerChem that looks like the cover of an O'Reilly book on workplace safety.

@GetzlerChem I had found a photo of a pair of safety glasses with a shard of metal embedded in the lens. I really wish I'd saved it, because I would like to show it to everyone here who wants to use my angle grinder, but is resistant to wearing safety glasses.

(It's interesting… personally, I find this poster compelling, but I wonder if it would be effective on my neighbours even if the text was translated to Hindi. The aesthetic of this poster somehow feels academic to me. I can't explain it very well.)
