im used to having my hellpath laid out for me. i had to take up to calc 2 so i could clear the artificial difficulty bar for cs. i had to take linear algebra also for cs and i guess so i would know that a vector space is type of jewel that tastes like a salad. i had to take calc 3 in case it helped me get into cornell (it didnt). now the hellpath is mine to create and im like. i sure do hate math actually
like do i *really* want to take diff eq and have to remember what i did in calc 3, i barely knew what i was doing in calc 3 during calc 3. i could take something that's not diff eq but what if it expects me to be an actual Math Knower and not someone who got a d in hs algebra 2 and then cried through a cc math degree 15 years later (wtf btw). like idk if i want to experience the mental effects of being Bad At Math again
jordan@kirakira you’re at a stage where you’re not really obligated to continue with the math minor, yeah? no dishonor in swapping it with something completely different or just not doing a minor
@jordan yeah, but i have so many of the credits for it already it'd just feel like kind of a waste not to
@kirakira sure but is it more of a waste then spending a portion of your remaining time in college torturing yourself? like if it was a “legit deep down I hate math so much I love it” situation but it doesn’t sound like you’ve gone enemies to lovers with it
@kirakira to put it another way, the only times in life you’re gonna say “dang I really regret not doing that minor in foo” are if you are trying to get another degree in foo or if you just really love studying foo. as far as getting you jobs, a minor is gonna be barely relevant, and once you’re two or three jobs in your whole degree is also gonna be barely relevant except for the fact that it exists
