Mastodon is close to 1 million MAU according to FediDB, and don't you love to see it!

Pixelfed remains 2nd with over 100k MAU.

If Misskey published their MAU, I'm sure they would be in second, or maybe first.

We did this together, without VC funding, enshittification or selling out users via ads or selling data.

@dansup there's likely a good few more, as many instances with large numbers of marginalised users may opt out of FediDB to preserve user safety..

@Alex@rtnVFRmedia Suffolk UK That's the same issue we have with Hubzilla. A lot of our users are privacy-oriented, and broadcasting statistics is off by default. The admin has to install an addon and turn it on. So a large percentage of Hubzilla servers are invisible to stats websites like this.

currently most Fedi instances are below the radar of Ofcom UK, and this network doesn't have a large appeal to teenagers yet, and there are smart people including lawyers keeping a sharp eye on developments..

This is one risk assessment already completed for a UK-based instance (a specialist one for PHP programmers)

Considering Misskey.io alone have 39-40,000 daily visitors, not even monthly, Misskey (inlcuding 10+ forks) might have 800K to 1 million MAU.
