The fossil fuel lobby realised very very early on that targeting young people with petroganda is vital for sustaining their corrosive business model as long as possible. The AI industry is quickly realising the same thing for worsening cognitive decay and reliance on GenAI in the nonprofit world.

Introducing Claude Corps

We’re launching Claude Corps, a national fellowship program for people early in their careers who are passionate about extending the benefits of AI to communities across America.

@ketan The splash image is probably slop, but it seems like a real thing. What's not clear is what one is supposed to do for $85k/yr. I could do what I'm doing for 5+ years with that kind of money!
@ketan Seriously disturbing, and presumably evil.
(I'm "passionate" about AI use in the third sector, but not in the way they probably mean)
@ketan Not that the Peace Corps was ever unproblematic - but this is simply vile, all the way through branding, intentions and desired outcomes

@ketan slopwashing as an equivalent to greenwashing?

I wish the term included the destruction of the creative jobs

@ketan I feel that the analogy with christian proselytizing youth organizations is really dangerous here. I have noted in the past that AI believers tend to have really visceral reactions to mild criticism.

It's been well documented how cults benefit from the bad experiences with rejection of young people doing missions, as failure contributes to further radicalize them against anyone outside the cult. This could be the same thing for AI.
