Well, that was fun!

I just tried to blow my pinky finger off.

Swapping out some 12V starter batteries in the motorhomeβ€”they may be the cause of our problemsβ€” and shorted a negative connection I lost track of and positive with a spanner and my wedding ring.

Blew a hole in the ring and took off a couple of layers of skin under it. Had to cut it off, after cooling it under running water for a while. Got a bit hot. A couple of hundred amps will do that.

Still got a finger so, bonus?

Stupid thing is, I *KNOW* to take off my wedding ring when working around electricity, even 12V stuff. Just tired, I guess.

And yeah, the old starter batteries (we have 2, at 900 amps each) were beginning to die, and our mechanic reckons that can cause the issues we have been having with the engine.

We'll see.

Now I have to get a new wedding ring.

Oh that looks rather painful Peter. Hope it heals quickly.

Lucky lucky lucky

Ordinary car battery work is risky enough, but when I connected an array of six 2V monster gel batts for my solar, was particularly nervous and careful connecting them with my shifter, eventually thickly wrapping its handle in layers of tape 😢

@Sheep_Overboard

In days gone past, in a telephone exchange, an apprentice (not me for once) dropped a spanner across the battery rail... 48V from 2V cells at an untoward amount of amps. All that was left was the two ends welded onto the rail, and a spackled wall to clean up.

Yeah, I have an insulated small shifter for exactly this job, but it's wandered off somewhere.

lolz Glad I wasn't a sparky, especially an industrial one. I'd have been vapourised long ago! I recall someone describing their encounter with a giant breaker panel that 'lit up' and gave him an instant sunburn 🀯
