And for an indoor-inprisoned cat it‘s an idea of freedom.

I assume it may be from a higher sense of smell over sight for some cats & needs to inspect me prior to proceeding with a small grooming.
Wouldn't want to smell like anyone else unexpectedly?
The funny part, she wants to smell the hand after petting.
