The US government steps on a rake with export control restrictions on Fable 5 and Mythos, by @k8em0 https://www.lutasecurity.com/post/the-fable-5-export-controls-harm-us-cyber-defense
The Fable 5 Export Controls Harm US Cyber Defense

Restricting Fable and Mythos has the same unintended consequence of harming defense while doing nothing to impede attackers. We can't export control our way to cyber resilience.

Katie: defensive prompts work because they are defensive. a fix request is the risk.

@evacide @k8em0 between Anthropic and their "this is too dangerous for public release", the gov't going "export control!" and Anthropic apparently not having the ability to...*checks notes*...only allow approved users to use it (???) this feels like that kickflipping a rake comic.
@evacide @k8em0 I understand that what's really going on is Anthropic saying "if we can't sell it, nobody can have it", and playing stupid power games with the US government, but still. The optics are very rake-kickflippy.
@evacide @k8em0 I don't think it was unintentional to weaken American cyber security.

Really, this means the push for larger scale sovereign LLM projects in other nations.

I still feel like these systems are mostly hype, for obvious reasons. And here, Anthropic got bitten by their own marketing and hype engine.
