Completed the American Arts-and-Crafts-style octagonal waste paper basket project. The wood is quarter-sawn white oak. The bands and upholstery tacks are copper.

It's based on a similar antique original. I didn't have any plans, just photos.

About 15 1/2 in (39.4 cm) high, 12 in (30.5 cm) across, and 12 3/4 in (32.4 cm) diameter.

Learned a few things on this project. This was my first time working with and aging copper. I'm happy how it came out.

@Jason844 that is gorgeous and extra and I love all the thoughtful little details like the finger holes to help turn it upside down one handed. I can see why you tried the liner nails, pulling something over that rim would feel criminal every time. Do you have ideas for what to try next for that? Anything else you would do differently if you made another one?

@infryq Thank you!

The nails aren't working for hanging a plastic bag. Don't know what might work better other than a separate liner. Or clear plastic trash bags.

Do differently? Locate the bottom panel a little lower. Make the decorative cuts on the sides more uniforms (same distance from the top as from the bottom). Use 2 sets of straps per band so the joints are uniform on each side (2 joints per band instead of one). Round or angle the end of the bands.

Not a bad result for working from photos of an antique original and not having any plans (or instructions).
