Can anyone recommend a good value compact A4-friendly scanner that's plug-and-play with Linux? #DuckDuckFedi #AskFedi #AskMastodon #Linux #scanner
@MediaActivist I am happy with my brother ADS1200
@kdieter That's good to know, thanks. Bought a second-hand Brother monochrome printer and it was plug-and-play and works a dream. Another Brother (from another mother?) might be good!

@MediaActivist Depends on what your requirements are of course (do you need perfect colour accuracy, or "just" legible-ish text? etc), but I've had a 1/1 success rate that "the cheapest USB flatbed scanner I could find on the local classifieds board" worked fine with SANE out of the box.

Always a gamble of course, but hard to beat the value.

(Sorry, can't find the model number right now, but it was a Canon Canoscan something-or-other.)

@natkr Yeah that's a good point, I'd just be scanning documents mostly, and that's great to know - thanks!

@MediaActivist

I've got an Canon DR-M140, works perfectly with sane-canon_dr

* sheet-fed scanner
* 600 dpi max
* color (24bit) / gray (8bit)
* cheap (2nd hand: 120 €/140 US $)
* fast (enough)

@fzap Thank you so much for sharing this, it's very useful and I really appreciate it!
